Musical Memories

Music plays a huge part in our activity sessions. Our Musical Memories project funded by Awards for All, National Lottery Community Fund is delivered weekly in our Dementia Activity Sessions. Music is a very powerful tool to use with people with dementia. Music can evoke memories, lift the spirits, and create opportunity to be physically active. The project includes dance sessions with X-Press Yourself Dance, Ukulele sessions, musical reminiscence activities and singing.

Intergenerational Sessions

Intergenerational sessions benefit both the person with dementia and the children. We have an established partnership with Langley Primary School enabling us to offer sessions bringing people living with dementia and children aged between 7 and 11 together on a regular basis. The school children take part in various activities with our groups, including life story work, reminiscence activities, dancing, singing and art.

“All children and staff who have attended BUDS have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions. We have noticed an impact with some of the quieter students or less confident children where they have had the opportunity to speak to unfamiliar adults which has developed their confidence as well as many of the children have had the chance to work alongside an ‘older generation’ and enabled them to learn from their life experiences. Sharing songs, games etc”

My Dementia, My Life, My Health

Looking after your physical health is hugely important when living with dementia. Our My Dementia, My Life, My Health project offers gentle exercise and movement to music to enable people to remain as active as possible. Our healthy eating sessions give our groups the opportunity to do tasting sessions, make smoothies and soups and talk about their general health and wellbeing. We also offer information sessions around diet and dementia and nutrition and hydration for carers and families.

Talking Garden

Our Talking Garden project, funded by South Staffs Water Pebble Fund will start in April. Participants in the project will design and create an outside space that can be used by members of the Activity Sessions and their families.
